Craftuesday. Easy coasters.

Last night, my friend Rachel came over to craft, snack and chat. She was working on this marvelous baby sweater (seriously, it was the most gorgeous thing I’ve ever seen one of my friends create…no offense to anyone because I love you all! But, this little number was straight out the boutique. Rachel – I can only strive to be as good of a knitter as you one day.).

For my project, I chose to use some scraps that I had lying around. But, what would I do with them? A few things crossed my mind but, in the end, the thought of Matthew asking, “where did all of the coasters go?” (I’m looking at you, Sam the Cat and Idgie the Dog) settled me on the idea of creating new fabric coasters for the living room:

I used some extra fabric, a couple of screenprinted sample scraps (from my days as a “screenprinter”), non-slip drawer liner material, bias tape and a pair of pinking shears. To get the size, I just tore out one of the many magazine subscription reply cards I had lying around and cut the longer end to make it a nice square shape. I had my “pattern.” Perfect!

A little over an hour later, I had birthed a set of coasters. What a proud little momma I was. So inspired was I, that I grabbed my current scarf project and finished that up as well.

So, a very productive Craftuesday. Good times. Good company. And, good use of things I had lying around.

I think these are super cute and you’d have no problem selling a big stack of them on etsy. I’m just sayin’…
